Lavarnway Headed To AAA In Catcher Logjam?

Back To Rhode Island?
In another baffling off-season choice, the Red Sox seem to be leaning toward keeping their oversupply of catchers—and not trading one of them to fill a need. Thus, 25-year old Ryan Lavarnway seems to be the odd-man out—likely headed to Pawtucket at the start of the season. Apparently, Jarrod Saltalamacchia will be the main starter behind the plate, with newcomer David Ross the primary back-up. Mike 'What Is Hip?' Napoli would be another fill-in option if he and the team ever resolve the medical issues blocking his signing. This seems like a continuation of the same mistaken strategy the Red Sox have employed for decades—keeping quality young players like Lavarnway in the minor leagues far too long.
