Sox Get "Chone" The Door; Lose To M's, 3-2

Chone Figgins has become a symbol for stupid free agent signings. The Mariners are paying this guy around $10 million a year to hit under .200. But last night, he earned a little of his pay by sending a sacrifice fly to right in the 11th inning, plating the winning run in a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox. 'The Closer Who Really Isn't A Closer' Alfredo Aceves, gave up the run, spoiling a nice comeback performance by Josh Beckett (6 innings , 2 earned runs). Also, the rest of the Boston bullpen performed well until the 11th. On top of all that, the Carmine Hose had rallied from a 2-0 hole—despite going 1 for 14 with runners in scoring position. All in all, bad loss to a team that—aside from the stellar defense and King Felix—belongs in AAA.
