Red Sox Blow, Reclaim Needed Win Over Empire

This one had pretty much everything. The exhilaration of an early lead, the despondency of a blown lead, and the redemption that is any win over the Evil Ones. We may be out of it, but we showed we can smite the Pinstriped Posers if we have to. Thanks to a misplay by Curtis Granderson, Pedro Ciriaco tripled in the lead run in the ninth (after Vicente Padilla had coughed up the lead to his nemesis Mark Teixeira). Adrian Gonzalez carried the day—going three for five, including a huge three-run home run off C.C. Sabathia. Jon Lester was better than his last outing (the worst of his career), but he could barely maintain a five-run lead provided him by the offense. All in all, a must win was won—the final, 8-6 Boston.
