Dice K's Eight In Five Innings; Sox Lose, 4-2

Daisuke Matsuzaka had one bad inning (what else is new?), but also struck out eight and showed effective stuff in his return from reconstructive elbow surgery. The bad inning resulted in four runs, enough for the Nationals to take their second straight win from the Red Sox, 4-2. A pinch-hit, bases-loaded two-run single by Jarrod Saltalamacchia provided all the runs for Boston, as they fell back under .500 (29-30) and remained steeped in last place in the American League East.

On a slightly different note, former Red Sox shortstop Jed Lowrie clouted his 12th HR of the year, while going 2 for 4 for the Astros today. He's batting .297 on the year. Oh, and Ross Ohlendorf, who opted out of his Red Sox contract, pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief for San Diego, giving up just one run. Just sayin'.
