Ex-Boston Team Moves Sox Into Postseason

Thanks to the Atlanta (formerly, Boston) Braves beating the Houston Astros, the Red Sox today backed into the postseason. Boston could have punched their own ticket to the playoffs, but instead lost again to the division-leading Rays, 5-1. A pathetic pitching performance by Patrick Sandoval (allowing 4 earned runs in the first inning) led to the Sox loss—their 6th in the last 10. The Braves win also clinched their 19th NL East crown. 

So, the Red Sox will almost certainly face the same opening round scenario that they did last year—three games in The Concrete Bunker On 161st Street. Major League Baseball needs to address this silly format—and allow the lesser Wild Card team at least one home game of the three.

The Red Sox will like throw Payton Tolle in the opener (against Northeastern University alum Cam Schlittler). Game 2 will see The Carmine Hose send Ranger Suarez to the hill and Game 3 will feature Sonny Gray. 

Oh, and did we mention the 3-run HR by Andover’s Mike Yastrzemski that secured the 4-2 win for the Braves? You can't make this stuff up!
