The Red Sox made the rumors reality on Monday afternoon,
extending the contract of shortstop Xander Bogaerts until through the 2025 season. The six-year extension is worth a total of $120 million—or $20 million per year. When you fold in the $12 million the X-Man is making this season, the total value of the deal is $132 million over seven years—or an average of $18.9 million over that span. This is good news for Boston as now a solid core of players are locked up for a long period. The remaining big-name players that could still depart are:
Mookie Betts (after the 2020 season),
J.D. Martinez (after the 2019 season), and
Rick Porcello (after the 2019 season). Stay tuned!
