Multiple reports now indicate that former Red Sox 1B/DH
Hanley Ramirez is not under federal investigation. Earlier reports suggested that Ramirez was being "eyed" in connection with a drug ring out of Lawrence, Massachusetts. As it turned out, a "friend" of Ramirez, who was stopped by police in Western Massachusetts, tried to avoid arrest by "dropping" Ramirez's name as the owner of a box in his car that turned out to have drugs in it. The "friend" had
FaceTimed Ramirez as he was being questioned by police during the traffic stop. After his arrest, the un-named suspect told police that—
in fact—Ramirez was
not involved, and that he only used the ballplayer's name to try to avoid arrest.
