Despite absolutely
awful coverage of Red Sox games by NESN (with the exception of
Jerry Remy and
Guerin Austin),
the network's baseball game ratings are up 40% over the same period last year (first nine telecast games). Clearly, the blazing 8-1 start by
The Carmine Hose is the
main (if not
only) reason for the boost—since NESN still features a 1950s technology, look and feel in their broadcasts. What other major-market regional sports network still does not have a
SuperSloMo replay capability? And how pathetic was it when they were touting their archaic and sloppy "multi-view" camera shots in Spring Training?
John Henry's sad little broadcast plaything remains third-rate—no matter
what the current ratings say.
