The Red Sox signed a player! Hold on, hold on—it was
not J.D. Martinez. But, Boston fans can get their "Oscar Buzz" going a few months early as
the team signed 24-year old catcher Oscar Hernandez to a minor-league contract. The pact comes with an invite to Spring Training. Hernandez spent last season at AA in the Arizona organization—hitting
under the
Mendoza Line. Anyway, this means that—barring a trade—the Red Sox
potentially have four catchers on the roster (
Christian Vazquez,
Sandy Leon,
Blake Swihart and Hernandez). While
Dave Dombrowski has been poo-pooing a trade of Swihart, this Hernandez move could signal otherwise. Stay tuned!
