A little over 30 years ago, Red Sox Nation hit its nadir (and we don't mean Ralph) on a Saturday night in October. We won't recount the agony that
was the 1986 World Series—but
one sportswriter sees a re-match in the offing.
Bob Nightengale of
USAToday Sports projects that
the Red Sox and Metropolitans will face-off again in this year's Fall Classic. Since that fateful series,
The Carmine Hose have banked three rings—while the Mets have blown two chances at glory. Nightengale foresees the same result as in 1986—with 'The Amazins' winning again. Not bloody likely. We think it's
much more likely to be a Sox-Cubs showdown—and a ninth Red Sox ring.
