According to Jon Heyman of
CBSSports.com, former Red Sox captain
Jason Varitek has interviewed for the open Seattle Mariners managing position. Ironically, the Mariners let Varitek go as a player—along with
Derek Lowe—in a trade for the immortal
Heathcliff Slocumb. Of course, we
did have to give up
Lee Tinsley to get Slocumb in the first place (
insert heavy sarcasm here). ESPN named the transaction as
the 7th worst deal in baseball history. Anyway, it's still not clear whether Varitek would move his family out of the Boston area to take
any managerial position—but this one might be too good to pass up. Stay tuned.
