Don't believe the
Yawkey Way Spin Machine today—the Red Sox lost
Jon Lester as soon as they low-balled him ($70 million) last Spring. Early this morning,
Lester announced that he had signed a 6-year, $155 million contract with the Chicago Cubs. There is also a seventh-year (2021) option that could bring the total value of the deal to $170 million. Pure and simple, the Red Sox ownership and management blew it. Now, they will need to
overpay with a bevy of their oh-so-precious prospects to get
Cole Hamels. Or, they can lay out even more cash than they offered Lester to get
Max Scherzer. Hey Ichabod, how's that soccer club doing?
