According to
MLB Network Radio's C.J. Nitkowski,
the Red Sox have traded Yoenis Cespedes to the Tigers for starting pitcher Rick Porcello. The 25-year old Porcello is sort of a younger version of
Wade Miley—from the right side. He is 76-63 in six MLB seasons—never winning fewer than 10 games. Of course, he's been on one of the best offensive teams in baseball for those six years. And, his career ERA is 4.30. Last season he was 15-13 with a 3.43 ERA. He is arbitration-eligible in 2015. This still does not solve Boston's vacuum at the top of the rotation—but perhaps the signing of
James Shields (said to be imminent) will
somewhat complete the picture.
