The Great Magical Mystery Farewell Tour isn't exactly going as planned.
Derek Jeter is hitting .240 so far this year—and it's a really
feeble .240. For example, he collected just three extra base hits in all of April. This past Friday, he chipped in with the first 0-for-7 game of his
career. According to
ESPN Stats & Info, going into yesterday's game, Jeter was hitting just .220 on fastballs above 91 MPH. His bat is slow and weak. And now, the wags in the New York media are starting to
call for Joe Girardi to drop Jeter in the order—some even suggesting
ninth. Hey, at least he's got range at short—uh, never mind.
