According to several reports,
Red Sox principal owner John Henry is about to lower the boom on the largest newspaper in Central Massachusetts. The
Worcester Telegram & Gazette was sort of the
Nick Punto of Henry's $70 million deal to buy
The Boston Globe. Now, reportedly, Henry wants to sell the paper to a New York-based company that owns multiple second-rate regional newspapers. Of course, one could argue that the
Globe is fast becoming a second-rate rag—or might actually already be there. Henry isn't exactly
William Randolph Hearst yet—or even the fictitious
Charles Foster Kane—but he sure looks like he's enjoying playing with his toy box full of moribund newspapers.
