While
John Lackey will start tonight's exhibition game against Puerto Rico's entry in the
World Baseball Classic—it won't be a bunch of no-names he'll be facing. As
ESPN.com's Gordon Edes points out,
Team Puerto Rico features MLB stars like
Carlos Beltran,
Alex Rios,
Angel Pagan,
Mike Aviles,
Jose Molina, and
Yadier Molina. Aviles was the compensation to Toronto for the services of
John Farrell, but was quickly shipped to
Terry Francona's Indians. For Lackey, this could be the first real test of the Spring as to whether he has what it takes to be a dependable member of the Red Sox rotation.
