Red Sox manager
John Farrell had to report today that no progress has been made on either
David Ortiz or
Stephen Drew. On Papi, Farrell stated,
“A concern in that it’s going to be a couple more days than originally thought or projected. To what extent progress is being made, and there’s some, but not to the point where he’s ready to take it to the next step.” Regarding Drew, the manager said,
“Reports were that he had similar symptoms. If there’s no improvement by the end of the day tomorrow we’ll have him see Dr. Collins in Pittsburgh.” Functionally, it's now clear that
neither player will be ready for Opening Day.
